Happy Birthday, Delaware County
Delaware County is turning 200, and you’re invited to the party.

Join the celebration on February 10 from 1-4 p.m. at the Delaware Area Career Center North Campus for the Delaware County Founder’s Day event and 200th Birthday Party. This event will kick off the year-long Delaware County Bicentennial Celebration. Admission to the event is free.

We look forward to seeing everyone at Founder’s Day as we kick off the Bicentennial Year,” says committee member Margo Litke. “There will be lots of local entertainment throughout the afternoon, and many county officials will be present as well.” Litke notes that Founder’s Day will feature, among other activities, music, children’s activities, re-enactors, birthday cake, and contest kick-offs, such as a beard growing contest that will be judged during Community Day on July 5. Local entertainers include, but are not limited to, the Hayes Singers, the Sweet Adelines, the Hayes String Quartet, the Delaware Community Chorus, and the Civil War Singers.

“We will also honor the oldest resident of Delaware County, Opal McAllister, who is 103 and will be on hand to help us celebrate,” says Litke. The original desk used by the founder of Delaware County will also be on display.

There will be lots to do in the coming year as the Bicentennial Celebration includes more than 20 events such as a Bicentennial Parade, Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show Parade, a Civil War re-enactment, and a Presidential Ball. Visit www.delawareco200.com for a complete list of activities or to get involved with the celebration.
