Plaque Dedications - April 25

Plum Orchard from Future Courthouse Lawn by Rod Arter

Delaware County
Courthouse Hill
and the
Plum Orchard Plaque

Friday, April 25, 2008 (Arbor Day)
1:00 to 1:30

Corner of Central Ave. and N. Sandusky
(the lawn of the old courthouse)

For most pf Delaware County’s history, this hill has been the center of  county government. One side of the plaque will describe that history.

The other side will tell the story of how early settlers to the county discovered a plum tree orchard near this spot before it was a town.   Because the orchard would have been planted by the Indians, the dedication will include a celebration and recognition of the Native Americans. A plum tree will be planted near the plaque.

Participating in the dedication and planting will be Native Americans, descendants  of the settlers who originally recorded the story, city and county officials, members of the shade tree commission,  and students from Delaware schools.
